I purchased the 1964 442 from a fellow club member after he experienced an engine fire. The fire department was just across the street and responded quickly so the damage was confined to the engine bay although the hood and fender were damaged when they tried to get inside to put the fire out. After disassembly, we determined that the car had previous damage which was not repaired properly necessitating the replacement of the right quarter and straightening out lots of dents. We also determined that water had entered the engine when the fire was extinguished necessitating an engine rebuild. We aslo determined that during a previous engine rebuild, low compression pistons and the standard cam were installed - the rebuild is being done with the correct components. The car is presently undergoing restoration at Golden Oldies Performance, Inc in Wiscasset, ME and should be completed in 2008.
